Awning Windows

Awning windows are a type of window design commonly found in kitchens or bathrooms, but can be utilized in other rooms as well. A Sunview estimator can suggest where you might place them depending on size and location of your window.

They are similar to casements, except they are hinged at the top and open outward from the bottom, creating a canopy-like effect when opened allowing air to circulate and ventilate your home freely while providing a unique protective shield from the elements. This design can be combined with fixed or picture windows as well.

Features

Versatility of design

Awning windows come in various sizes and styles, allowing flexibility in their placement and compatibility with different architectural designs. They can be combined with other window types or used as standalone units.

Ventilation and airflow

Awning windows are great for providing excellent ventilation while maintaining privacy and security. When opened, they create a vent-like opening at the bottom.

Energy efficiency

Awning windows are designed with energy-efficient features, such as multiple panes of glass, Low-E coatings, and gas fills, which enhance insulation and reduce heat transfer. This helps in maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature and can lead to energy savings.

Enhanced security

Since they lock on both sides, awning windows provides improved security compared to some other window types.

Easy operation and maintenance

Awning windows are typically operated with a simple crank mechanism, making them easy to open and close. They are also relatively low-maintenance, with removable screens for easy cleaning.

Natural light and views

Awning windows allow ample natural light to enter the room due to their wide openings. When closed, they provide unobstructed views of the surroundings, making them an excellent choice for rooms where both light and views are desired.

Weather resistance

Due to their outward-opening design, awning windows provide some protection against rain when open. The overlapping sash and compression seals prevent water from entering the interior space.
